Don't Forget Who You Are!

Updated: Dec 25, 2024

It's truly amazing how God can take the parts of our lives that we think are unusable and use them to write or rewrite our stories. Listen, life has a way of pulling you through its ups and downs, and my personal journey has been just that—a series of challenges, heartaches, and growth.

From experiencing child sexual abuse to navigating those awkward teenage years, to being kicked out of the house at 18 with no idea where I’d go or why I was even being kicked out. I lost my mother to breast cancer three days after my 16th birthday and found myself struggling to figure out who I was and how I would learn to become a woman. I endured a toxic and abusive marriage, suffered a miscarriage, battled bouts of depression, and went through the process of rediscovering myself.

My journey also included giving my life to Christ later in life, facing financial struggles, dating the wrong men, healing from past hurts, and grappling with trust issues—especially with God. I’ve fought generational battles, suffered in silence, faced seasons of loneliness, and struggled to understand my purpose and walk in my calling. I often neglected studying God’s Word and failed to consistently pray or build my relationship with Him.

But then, things began to shift. I started to know God more, understand His love for me, and love myself better. I allowed God to father me, began walking in my God-given authority by His Word, studying His guidance, heeding His call, and submitting to His will. I’ve found victory in every area of my life, even when I don’t see it, because I trust that His plans are far better than anything I could have imagined for myself. I’ve come to understand exactly where I need to be and know that God doesn’t play when it comes to me. As His daughter, He takes an “I wish a devil would” stance concerning me.

If you’re in a season where you’re trying to figure out your purpose or struggling to fully walk in it, trust and lean on God. Reflect on what His Word says in Jeremiah 1:5: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart.” Your story was already written before you entered your mother’s womb. The role you need to play now is one of submission. Submit your will and your heart to the Lord Jesus Christ—give up your so-called plans—and watch God show you clearly the direction you should go.

Blessings to all who are reading this. I pray that you submit yourself to the Lord, surrender your plans, and let go of how you thought things should go. Let go and let God do His thing!
